George Pressley Horton, born December 22, 1925 in Rocky Comfort, Missouri passed away on his 86th Birthday, December 22, 2011. He had recently been living with his daughter Carol (Tim) Diller at the Indian Lake Nazarene Conference Center near Vicksburg, MI. George grew up in a large family of five brothers and six sisters. At age 16, George moved to Michigan to live with his sister Eileen. However, he soon returned to Missouri, as he had been drafted during WWII. George was put into the infantry and sent to Germany. After serving his tour, he came back to the States and drove a Jeep until his discharge. Shortly after coming home, he met a lady on the street corner waiting for the bus. Marjorie Quick and George Horton soon became inseparable. They were married on March 30, 1948. Over the years they were blessed with two boys and a girl, Jimmy, Danny, and Carol. George spent 30 years working for General Motors at the Malleable Iron Foundry. George spent his retirement working in the yard not only at his place, but also at his church, Saginaw New Life Church of the Nazarene. He spent his last few months at his daughter's home, doing yard work and raking leaves. He always found time to ride the golf cart and build a fire in the wood stove. George's eyes would always light up when involved with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
George is survived by his daughter Carol (Tim) Diller of Vicksburg; four grandchildren, Brandon (Ali) Horton, Brianne (Matt) Luft, Teresa (David) Hayhoe, and Timorthy (Martha) Diller; eight great grandchildren, Bryce and Layla Horton, Sean, Caylee, Makenzie, and Olivia Luft, and Dana and Adam Hayhoe. His extended family, from Michigan to Arkansas, include brother Buster (Zelda) Horton, Wilma (Jerry) Thompson, and Joyce (Marion) Cooper. George had a special spot for his in-laws, Mable (Ken) Hahn, Verl Quick, Barb Becmer, Virginia Quick, Betty (Rich) Carter, and many nieces and nephews. George was preceded in death by his wife Marjorie in 2003, and his sons, Jim and Dan “Fat Dad” in 2006.
